Mount Baldy and Other Trails Closed Ahead of Winter Storms in Angeles National Forest
A temporary closure has been issued for several high-elevation trails in the Angeles National Forest, including routes in the Mount Baldy area of the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument, as winter storms are forecast to impact the region.
The closure, which took effect February 10, will remain in place through February 23, 2026. Forest officials said the action is intended to protect public safety due to hazardous winter conditions, including snow, ice, high winds, and reduced visibility.
Trails temporarily closed include the Mt. Baldy Trail (7W12), Mt. Baldy Bowl Trail (7W02), Devils Backbone Trail (7W05), Three T’s Trail (7W06), Icehouse Canyon Trail (7W07), Chapman Trail (7W07A), and Ontario Peak Trail (7W08).
The affected routes access some of the most popular hiking terrain on Mount Baldy, also known as Mount San Antonio, the highest peak in Los Angeles County at 10,064 feet.
Visitors are advised to check current conditions and closure updates before heading into the San Gabriels. Winter storms can rapidly change conditions at higher elevations, increasing the risk of falls, exposure, and avalanche hazards.
