American Alpine Club Cancels Bishop Craggin’ Classic, Shifts Focus to New Strategic Plan
The American Alpine Club (AAC) has announced that it will no longer host its Craggin’ Classic Series of climbing events, including the popular Bishop Craggin’ Classic, which was held annually in the Easter Sierra town of Bishop, California.
The event was part of of the AAC’s Craggin Classic Series, which brought together climbers from across the country for 13 years to fostere community and promote stewardship in the sport.
The series attracted more than 30,000 participants over the years, with nearly 8,000 climbers taking part in various clinics designed to enhance their skills and connection to the climbing community. Participants have contributed over 10,000 hours of stewardship to local crags, demonstrating a commitment to preserving the environments where they climb.
In addition to the Bishop Craggin’ Classic, the AAC is also cancelling the Hueco Rock Rodeo, which it hosted for over a decade in Hueco Tanks in Texas.
The decision to cancel the Craggin’ Classic Series comes as the AAC shifts its focus to a new Strategic Plan aimed at enhancing the organization’s impact over the next three years.
