San Diego County Parks to Increase Fees for First Time in Over a Decade

After nearly 11 years without any changes, San Diego County Department of Parks and Recreation will introduce new user fees starting February 18, 2025. Officials say the adjustments are necessary to help offset rising maintenance and operating costs while bringing local parks more in line with similar facilities in the region.
Among the most notable changes, the Day Use Parking fee will rise from $3 to $5, and an RV partial hook-up campsite will increase from $29 to $35. A few dollars will be added to other services as well, including fishing permits, boating rentals, and sport facilities. The revised fees also simplify certain reservations by including up to two pets and one extra vehicle at no additional cost.
County Parks & Recreation emphasizes that the increased revenue will support the upkeep of 158 facilities across more than 58,000 acres of land and 389 miles of trails. The department also highlighted its commitment to inclusivity, pointing to various discount programs for veterans, seniors, and groups, as well as the free First Time Camping Program and scholarship offerings.
Visitors can still lock in the lower rates if they make reservations or arrive before February 18—even if their actual visit occurs after that date.
