Getting to Gecko Campground
Gecko Campground is accessed via Highway 78, located east of Brawley, California. From Highway 78, turn onto Gecko Road, where the campground is prominently located on the left side of the road. The paved loops make navigation straightforward for all vehicles, including RVs.
Driving Directions
- From Brawley, California: Take Highway 78 east for approximately 23 miles. Turn onto Gecko Road, and the campground is on your left.
- From Yuma, Arizona: Take Interstate 8 west to Ogilby Road (Exit 166). Drive north on Ogilby Road to Highway 78 and head west. Turn onto Gecko Road, and the campground will be on your left.

Overseen by the Bureau of Land Management, Gecko Campground offers a prime location for desert camping in the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area, a popular destination for off-roading and sand sports enthusiasts. Each loop is equipped with numerous vault toilets strategically placed for visitor convenience. While there are no hookups or potable water sources, the paved roads provide easy access to all sites, making it ideal for dry camping. Fire rings are available at most sites, allowing for campfires under the expansive desert night sky.
The campground’s location within the Imperial Sand Dunes makes it a hub for outdoor recreation. This campground is particularly popular among OHV riders, so expect to hear motorcycles and ATVs much of the time.
