Getting to Heart Rock Trailhead
To reach the Heart Rock Trailhead, take Highway 138 through Cedarpines Park. Approximately 1/4 mile south of Camp Seeley’s entrance, turn onto Forest Service Road 2N03, where the trail begins. Parking is limited along the road, so plan to arrive early, especially during weekends. There is no restroom at the trailhead, so be prepared.
The Trail
The Heart Rock Trail starts gently, winding along Seeley Creek. You’ll walk through shaded areas with towering pines, and the sound of the creek adds a tranquil ambiance to the hike. Within about 15 minutes, you’ll cross the creek itself—be sure to bring appropriate footwear, especially if water levels are high.
As you follow the trail, you’ll notice a variety of local plants and possibly spot squirrels, songbirds, and other wildlife. The path remains mostly level with a slight incline, making it accessible for families and hikers of all abilities.
About 0.8 miles in, the trail arrives at Heart Rock, where a heart-shaped hole naturally carved into the cliff provides a breathtaking overlook. Just beside it, a 20-foot waterfall cascades into the pool below, especially scenic after rainfall.
This spot is a popular photo opportunity, but be cautious, as the area around the overlook can be slippery. Children should be supervised closely here to ensure safety.
