Electric Surfboard can go 37MPH for a Cool $25K
LIND, a water sports brand founded in 2021, has unveiled the LIND Canvas, a modular electric surfboard designed to deliver high-speed, wave-free surfing. Capable of reaching speeds up to 37 mph, the board offers a ride time of approximately 45 minutes, powered by a 20kW drivetrain. The board weighs just 15 pounds, including its battery and propulsion system, which are compact enough to fit into a custom backpack for easy transport.
Available in two models—a shortboard (6’3”) and a mid-length board (6’9”)—the Canvas combines traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology. Constructed from EPS foam, epoxy resin, and featuring oak wood details, it integrates over 50 sensors and microprocessors for intuitive operation. Assembly is tool-free and takes under a minute.
LIND emphasizes safety in its design, with features like sensors that disable the propulsion system unless the board is submerged and a wireless remote with a kill switch. The modular setup allows users to swap the drivetrain between different boards, providing versatility for riders.
The LIND Canvas, available for preorder with an expected delivery in April 2025, starts at $24,950. Each board comes with the drivetrain, remote, charger, board bag, and fins. ry, sustainability, and innovation.
Despite its technological advancements, electric surfboards like the LIND Canvas face criticism from surfing purists who argue that motorized boards stray from the traditional essence of wave-riding. LIND, on the other hand, sees its creation as more than a surfboard—positioning it as a luxury watercraft that transcends traditional surfing.
