New Skateparks Planned for San Diego
First things first, San Diego is a skateboarder’s dream. There are over 50 skateparks within San Diego County, including some of the worlds best skateparks – Linda Vista, Poods, Alga Norte, Prince Park, the list goes on.
And more are coming.
I know of four new San Diego skateparks that are in various stages of coming into existence. The two that are furthest along are the new skateparks under construction in Fallbrook and Spring Valley.
Fallbrook Skatepark
Work on the Fallbrook skatepark started earlier this summer, and the Spring Valley Skatepark groundbreaking was reportedly last seek.
Fallbrook Skatepark is being built in Village View Park, a 6.8-acre park east of Fallbrook Community Center. The land was purchased in March 2020 as part of an effort to expand recreation in low-income areas of Fallbrook. The total cost for construction of the park was estimated at around $2,300,00 and construction is expected to begin in the fall of 2022.
Spring Valley Skatepark
Spring Valley Skatepark is planned for the eastern San Diego town of Spring Valley, an effort that began in 2018. The latest designs for the park call for a 23,000 square-foot-skatepark that includes a 4.5 – 5.5 feet deep flow bowl, 6-10 foot deep “soul bowl,” and a large street skating plaza.
Mira Mesa Skatepark
Mira Mesa is the hometown of Willy Santos, a top street skater in the 1990s, but the area has never had its own skatepark. That’s all set to change as San Diego redevelops one of the largest parks in Mira Mesa and add a skatepark in the process. Sounds like the park will be open by spring of 2026.
Moonlight Beach Skatebowl
This is the least sure of the skateparks. A group of skaters is advocating to build a skate bowl at Moonlight Beach in downtown Encinitas and have gotten serious enough about it to make the news. Encinitas already has a couple of great parks – Poods in Cardiff by the Sea and the Encinitas YMCA. But, yeah, skating a bowl next to the beach would be sweet.
Enchanted Hills Skatepark
While technically in Riverside County, Enchanted Hills Skatepark in Perris, California, is expansive new skatepark within striking distance of San Diego. It opened a couple of years ago, but thought it was worth including here in case it slipped under your radar. It’s located at Weston Road, Perris, Riverside County, California, 92570.
