Big Bear Off-Road Trails
The alpine playground of San Bernardino National Forest that surrounds Big Bear Lake offers an extensive network of mellow forest service roads and challenging off-road trails. There are options to suit nearly any vehicle with clearance and a decent set of tires. There are also gnarly, technical off-road routes like John Bull Trail to challenge seasoned off-roaders in heavily modified vehicles.

Gold Fever Trail
The Gold Fever Trail, designated as 2N09, is an easy-level off-road trail located in the Big Bear area. It’s known for its historical significance, as it follows routes used during the gold rush era. Upper Holcomb Creek Road
Upper Holcomb Creek Road (3N08) is an easy-to-moderate trail situated in the picturesque Holcomb Valley, near Big Bear, California that goes from Copley Road to Holcomb Valley Road. The road has one moderate obstacle, a rocky hill climb that is challenging enough that you’ll want a 4×4 vehicle (a stock Jeep, Bronco, or pickup will have no problem). This valley is renowned for its rich history, especially from the gold rush era, and its stunning natural landscapes.
John Bull Trail
John Bull Trail, designated as 3N10, is known as the most challenging trail in the Holcomb Valley area near Big Bear, California. It’s characterized as an expert-level trail, demanding a high degree of skill and a well-equipped vehicle. The trail offers a mix of rocky terrains, steep inclines, and potentially tricky obstacles. This trail is particularly renowned among off-road enthusiasts for the technical demands it offers to those seeking a solid off-roading adventure.
