Getting to Oceano Dunes
From San Luis Obispo, head south on US-101 for about 15 miles. Take the Grand Avenue exit in Arroyo Grande, follow Grand Avenue west for approximately 5 miles, and you’ll reach the beach entry kiosk. An alternative entry is via Pier Avenue in Oceano, which provides direct access to the beach and OHV areas.
Visitors should be aware that beach conditions, such as high tides and sand drifts, can affect vehicle access. Four-wheel drive is strongly recommended for beach driving, especially in soft sand areas.

The OHV area begins one mile south of Pier Avenue at Post 2, where vehicles must off-load. Strict regulations protect sensitive plant and animal habitats, and areas are fenced off to preserve the local ecology.
Camping at Oceano Dunes is a rustic experience, with no designated sites or hookups. Vault and chemical toilets are available, and reservations must be made through Reserve California. Due to the sandy terrain, beach camping is recommended for vehicles with four-wheel drive.
