The Trail
Starting at the Tahquitz Canyon Visitor Center, the trail leads you into a stunning desert canyon flanked by towering rock walls and lush vegetation. The well-maintained path weaves through a variety of native plants, including fan palms and creosote bushes.
The first stretch of the hike is relatively gentle, allowing you to soak in the beauty of the canyon. As you progress, the terrain becomes more rugged, with uneven rock surfaces and shallow water crossings (seasonally).
The highlight of the trail is Tahquitz Falls (top image), a 60-foot seasonal waterfall cascading into a serene pool surrounded by granite cliffs—a perfect spot to pause and take in the scenery.
Throughout the trail, you’ll encounter interpretive signs offering insights into the canyon’s rich cultural history. Ancient rock art and remnants of Cahuilla irrigation systems provide glimpses into the lives of those who inhabited the canyon for thousands of years.
