Carlsbad plans a new bike park for BMX and mountain bikers by 2025

Carlsbad plans to add to San Diego County’s growing collection of bicycle parks with the addition of its first-ever bike park, a central feature of the newly approved Veterans Memorial Park. The park is expected to be complete by spring of 2025, according to the most recent announcement by the county.
The 94-acre park, prominently situated on rolling hills with views of Agua Hedionda Lagoon and the Pacific Ocean, will soon join the ranks of other notable bike parks in the region. The Carlsbad bike park, located along Faraday Avenue at Cannon Road near the city’s center, is designed to offer an array of cycling attractions including a pump track, jumps, and a slalom course.

This new addition complements an already impressive list of bike parks in San Diego County. Notable among them is the Greg Cox Bike Park in Chula Vista, which provides an exciting venue for bikers of various skill levels. Mission Trails BMX Track at Mission Trails Regional Park offers a challenging experience for BMX riders, while Luiseño Bike Park in Pauma Valley caters to mountain biking enthusiasts with its unique trails.
The Pacific Highlands Ranch Pump Track in Carmel Valley is another gem, offering a specialized pump track experience, and Sweetwater Bike Park in Bonita is known for its well-designed courses and jumps.
The master plan for Veterans Memorial Park includes trails, native gardens, playgrounds, adult fitness areas, a shaded plaza, and a memorial honoring military veterans. The park will develop 39 acres for these features and preserve 55 acres as natural open space.
This project, resulting from years of community input and collaborations with organizations like the San Diego Mountain Biking Association, is backed by a budget of over $22 million, funded through developer fees.
